If you are getting these symptoms, it is important to have food or orange juice -- especially if you are taking insulin. Do this before your sugar gets too low and you pass out.
Signs of Hypoglycemia
Sweating
Shaking
Mood Swings
Lightheaded
Dizzy
Loss of Co-Ordination
Hunger
Headache
Anxiety
Tingling in the arms/legs
Irritibility
Slurred Speech.
Worsening symptoms are drowsiness and loss of consciousness.

My mother had hypoglycemia throughout most of her life and I know it was always VERY important for her to eat breakfast and then make sure she had 3 meals throughout the day. Even if it was just some toast and peanut butter, she had to eat something or she got very dizzy.
2 years ago, however, it was switched over to diabetes. She is 72 now.

I've been hypoglycemic a few times, and it is the worst feeling I've ever had, next to a panic attack. And even when you get your blood sugar back up to an appropriate level, you spend the rest of the day feeling drained and exhausted, like you've just run a marathon.

Yes, they recommend crackers or orange juice. You can also buy the little candies designed for hypoglycemia.

I still recommend the little tubes of cake icing to keep in your pocket or purse. Super high in sugar and in a pinch, someone can squeeze a little bit under your tongue to absorb and hopefully wake you up if you've passed out.
Cheap and easy to replace too.
