Doctors are finding that taking Glucophage when you have pre-diabetes or hyperinsulinemia can help reduce your blood sugar and insulin levels and help you lose weight.

Here is a good article on it:

Unfortunately, glucophage didn't do either of those things for me, and I eventually became a full-fledged diabetic. But I know that the overall stats have been promising. Just wish it had worked a little better for me.

Is there any risk involved, should a diabetic take this or what if the person is diabetic but does not yet realize this (i know a lot of people have diabetes and are undiagnosed)?

As far as I know glucophage is only available by prescription.

Glucophage is only available by prescription. If you know someone who thinks they may be diabetic, they should see a doctor and discuss with them and get appropriate blood tests done.

They can also diagnose pre-diabetes this way.
