PolyCystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is another complication of hyperinsulinemia.
It is characterized by weight gain (despite diet and exercise), acne, irregular periods and infertility.

I also have this. What ticks me off, is that when I first heard about it, about 10 years ago, I told my doctor I thought that I had this -- sudden large weight gain (almost 70 pounds in 2 years), could not get pregnant, and some of the other symptoms -- he just blew me off and was like "no you're just overweight".
Well, 4 years later, when I couldn't get pregnant and went to a fertility specialist -- didn't they tell me that I had PCOS!
I hate when doctors assume that you don't know what you're talking about just because they didn't think of it first!
One of my friend is suffering from this kindand he has been advised by his doctor to manage the syndrome through permanent lifestyle changes ? like daily exercise and a low G.I. diet ? as well as medication.
